Behind the southeast stands of the Chigasaki Park Baseball Ground, there is the memorial monument of Kunikida Doppo, an author best known for his works "Musashino" and "Kamakura Fujin." The title lettering was written by Dr. Makino Eiichi and the portrait was painted by Mitsuhashi Itoji on a stone slab inlaid on a natural stone brought from Yugawara, a place associated with Doppo. The inscription to the right suggests that Doppo, who suffered from tuberculosis and fought the disease in Chigasaki, was capturing his spirit in the desolate sea.
