As one of the few remaining shell mounds along the coast of Sagami Bay, it is accompanied by a settlement site dating from the late Jomon period (4,000–3,500 BCE). The site is large in scale and well-preserved, and is extremely important and valuable for understanding life in those days, and the designated area is a part of the site.
