Tsurumine Hachimangu Shrine is an ancient shrine whose origins are said to date back to the Heian period, and after the shrine was ravaged by repeated wars, Chokei Shonin of Jokoin Temple, who restored the shrine, planted pine trees and built a 420-ken (approximately 760 m) approach to Tokaido (currently National Route 1) in the early Edo period (around 1650). The approach to the shrine is designated as a city historic site, and the rows of pine trees are designated as a Natural Monument of the city.
