Kan’eiji Temple in Ueno, Tokyo, which prospered as the family temple of the Tokugawa family, received many stone lanterns from the feudal lords as offerings to the successive shoguns. The six stone lanterns in Chigasaki are the ones that were given by Kan'eiji Temple as a return present for the donations to help rebuild Kan'eiji Temple, which was damaged by earthquakes and other disasters.
