Cultural Heritage
It belongs to the older group of the priest Nichiren statues in Japan and is a valuable statue among the Buddhist sculptures in the city. It has a height of 32.0 cm, a width of 42.5 cm between the ends of the both sleeves, and a width of 26.0 cm between the knees, has crystal eyes embedded within, and made by yosegi-zukuri technique assembling separately carved pieces of wood; the head and the torso are carved from a single log of wood respectively, split into the front and the back parts to be hollowed out and rejoined, with each arm and the frontal part including knees made of separate pieces of wood. Inside the statue, there is a three-line vertical inscription on the back of the head that is written in ink and means "Made in March, Eisho 11 (1514)".
