Cultural Heritage
It belongs to the older group of the priest Nichiren statues in Japan and is a valuable statue among the Buddhist sculptures in the city. The statue is 29.3 cm high with a 37.1 cm width between each sleeve. It was originally painted, but most of the color has been stripped off. It is made with joined wood-block construction and has crystal eyes embedded within. On the back of the top panel of the raised tatami mat pedestal on which the statue rests, there is a four-line vertical inscription that is written in ink and means "Respectfully yours, temple petitioner/April 18, Daiei 7 (1525), year of the Boar/Odawara Tokujo-bo/Nichijo [with a written seal mark]".
